Makerspaces

For this course, we have access to two maker spaces on campus. You can choose to visit the GSAPP Making Space, which is exclusive to the GSAPP community and may grant you a bit of flexibility with the size and scale of your fabrication, or the Columbia Makerspace, which has a wide array of tools at your disposal.

Note that both require training before using their facilities.

GSAPP Making Lab

Located in Schermerhorn Extension, the space is available from 9am to 9pm all weekdays and offers woodworking, laser cutters, and 3D printers. You must attend the online orientation and training to take advantage of these spaces. More information on the Making Lab can be found on their website.

Columbia Makerspace

Accessible to the entire Columbia community, the Makerspace in Mudd 254 has additional resources such as vinyl cutters, sewing machines, and other neat devices. To access this space, you must first go through the online onboarding via Zoom, then get trained by the superuser on duty (no appointment is needed for the latter). Information on when onboardings happen, superuser schedules, and operating hours can be found online.
